What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
Augmented reality uses visual effects to overlay digital content onto your real world surroundings that you can view and interact with using your own mobile phone.

Are AR and AI the same thing?
The two acronyms are often confused.  AI stands for artificial intelligence.  AR stands for augmented reality.  AR does use some forms of AI such as computer vision and visual positioning systems to work.

Is my data safe?
Yes. Depending on the type of experience, AR needs access to your camera and location in order to work. When you start a new AR experience or app for the first time, it will ask permission to use these components and data. The data will be stored temporarily and discarded at the conclusion of your session.  (The duration of storage is determined by the preferences you select at the beginning of the session). Like all mobile phone applications, your data may be anonymously aggregated and stored to improve the performance of the digital product overtime. But NO personal or identifiable information is stored.

Do I need to know how to use AR?
No.  This tour is perfect for augmented reality newbees.  Volunteers will be their to guide and help you as needed. Using AR is easy: the learning curve is around 30 seconds.

What equipment do I need?
You can use your own mobile phone if desired.  iPhones provide the most reliable service, however, Androids work too.  The volunteers guides will also have mobile phones and tablets available if you prefer to use theirs.

Do I have to download an app?
No. The visualizations are all web-based. However, older phone may need to download an app.

Is the tour ADA accessible?
Yes. the tour will take place on public sidewalks that are ADA accessible. Volunteers will be able to assist you if your phones are not ADA accessible.

What should I wear?
The walking path will be along public sidewalks.  Comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing are recommended.
